So the question for you is.. "Replace, Refinish or Reface?"
What do you do?
Well, first ask yourself these questions
1) Am I happy with the layout of my current kitchen?
2) Are the cabinets themselves in good working condition?
3) If the cabinets need repairs, are the repairs major or minor?
If you're happy with the layout, and the cabinets are in good shape, or only require minor repairs, then refacing is what I would recommend.
Refinishing can be done, however it is typically more expensive, and creates a much larger mess than refacing, plus, it takes longer. Maurer Woodshop does offer refinishing however, and is able to help you with your dream kitchen!
How Much is Kitchen Cabinet Refacing?
Refacing is typically as much as 70% cheaper than replacing too! To figure out how much a reface job would cost, count how many doors and drawers you currently have, and multiply by $100. This will give you a good "average" on what to expect. There are many factors that go into the estimate. What style of door do you desire? What species of wood do you want? What kind of Hardware?
Depending on what you decide, your estimate could either be lower, or much higher than the $100 per door/drawer.
How Long Does a Reface Take?
Maurer Woodshop is run by master cabinetmaker Clint Simpson, in Boonville, In. Maurer Woodshop does not sub out any work, therefore, all work is done by Clint, locally. Because of this, the lead time to begin your project will vary from week to week, depending on who is scheduled before your job. Usually, about a 3 month lead time could be expected. Once production begins and is finished, an install date will be set up with you. It normally takes about 2 days to reface a kitchen, depending on how many cabinets you have, and what all needs to be done. If you have minor repairs, or additional cabinets being added, the install time will vary.
