The main question I get asked is "Is my piece worth restoring?"

Well, there are 2 ways to try and answer that question. There are 2 values to put on an Antique Piece. First, the actual monetary value it would fetch in a true Antique Store, and second, the sentimental value the piece has for you.
Most priceless Antiques are worth more if they have the original finish on them and are not redone. But, most Antique pieces were stripped and refinished at some point, or simply painted to try and give them new life. If your piece has been refinished at some point, or has been painted, then yes, I would refinish it back to it's original beauty.
Restoring Antiques and Furniture isn't cheap. There are a lot of hours put into each piece, to ensure the old finish and stain are removed, so the new stain and finish will take and look original. The more detail that your piece has, the more time and labor it involves.
Some individuals are shocked at the cost to refinish a piece, until they actually tackle one themselves and find out just how labor intensive it is. Stripping a piece really isn't all that hard. Where the true artistry comes in is in the finish. Staining is also furniture. That's why it is best to let an expert do your piece right, the first time, and last time.
